About Me

Hello, my name is Dustin Cummings. I never knew exactly what I wanted to do while in school so I decided to jump into the workforce right out of high school. So, I went to work at the Galyan’s Distribution Center (has since been acquired by Dick’s Sporting Goods) as an associate. My thought was work there for a little while and find something better. Unbeknownst to me, I would find bosses and coworkers that would become more of mentors and friends then I ever thought. There would be times when I would put in applications to other jobs but I would have to weigh the pros and cons of going to a new job. One of the biggest factors was always the culture fit. I knew what I had at DSG and with all of the relationships I made I knew it was going to be hard to leave.

During my time at Galyans/Dick’s Sporting goods I held various roles from an associate all the way to a Supervisor of Distribution II. I worked in every department and developed many different skills but there was something that was missing and that was a different challenge. I have always had an interest in technology and had been talking with members from the IT department when I come to the conclusion that was the challenge that has been missing for me. I talked to a few of my mentors at DSG and one of them put me in connect with his cousin that was successful in the IT field.

During my conversations with him he told me about a coding bootcamp Eleven Fifty Academy and suggested that I give it a look. I decided to give it a look and found that they were having an Introductory to Coding class. During this class I decided that Development was what I wanted to do. With my passion to learn new things I knew that I could do this career switch and be successful so, I enrolled in their .NET class as soon as I could.
